Have you ever had sex in a public place? 55% of Irish millennials have

A new show based on a massive international survey of millenials will air tonight.

OVER 55% OF Irish millennials have had sex in a public space, one in six have tried S&M and 13% have had a threesome.

These are just some of the topline figures obtained by the Generation What? survey of millennials in Ireland.

The survey is a joint effort by the European Broadcasting Union to try to get a better picture of the habits and mindsets of 18 to 34-year-olds in Europe, what the organisers are calling generation Y.

The survey had the intention of getting a clear picture of how this age group feel about the world in which they live.

It was launched in April of last year across 14 European countries. Almost one million people have answered the survey so far and over 33,000 people in Ireland have taken it.

RTÉ will broadcast the first of two shows tonight on the results of the survey, and will interview respondents both at home and abroad on some of the key issues made in the survey.

Tonight’s episode will focus on sex, equality and faith.

Some of the key results from each of these areas include are below:

  • 15% of people have had sex with someone of the same sex
  • Over half of people (52%) have had sex with a stranger
  • 85% of people have masturbated
  • 3% of people have tried partner swapping
  • 60% of people agree that Ireland is still a long way from gender equality
  • Almost nine out of 10 people (89%) agree that banks and money rule the world
  • 88% of people agree that the gap between the rich and the poor is widening in Ireland

The show will also feature expert interviews and a panel discussion around some of the issues raised by the survey.

Generation What? will air on RTE 2 at 10.30pm tonight
